Say goodbye to the tousled beach hair look and welcome in the warm and new hairstyles of the fall. The latest and up in coming styles have been leaked and if you want to stay up to date with this seasons trends check out the top ten hairstyles for fall of 2011.
1. Braided high pony.
This quick look is meant to be cute and casual for a girl on the go. Throwing your hair up in a pony and then braiding or fish tailing the end will give a fun flirty look to the basic pony tail.
2. Sleek straight middle part.
If you are in the mood for something a little more modern or sophisticated, yet simplistic, try a middle part and some sleek straight strands to give yourself an edge and to change it up a bit.
3. Ballerina Bun
The ballerina inspired bun creates a preppy and fun look for the fall. With a hint of class and sophistication the ballerina bun will go with any look.
4. Tousled, textured pixi
This new fall trend is combining two popular looks from before to create a whole new sassy, flirty look. Instead of the long tousled beach wave or the Halle Berry slick pixi, girls will rock the shot pixi while holding the tousled texture. This is sexy and flirty while also chic and trendy.
5. Elegant quick up-do
The quick and elegant up-do is the perfect look for dinner parties or events. Throwing your hair up with a pin here and there and maybe some sparkled accessories will catch everyone’s eye and give you an effortless look.
6. The fall ombre
This trend is not about how your hair is styled but the color of your hair. We have seen the ombre trend on celebrities all year, with the dark brown roots fading into the blonde ends. Fall is going to feature the ombre but instead of emphasizing the vast colors a more subtle fall from dark brown to hints of blondes at the bottom is what you will see.
7. Glam waves
Glam your waves and ditch the salty beach tousles. By creating sleek, big waves it will give your hair volume and you will look and feel glamorous.
8. The messy bun
In a hurry but don’t want to be seen not looking stylish. Throw your hair up in a messy bun; this look isn’t about the placement of each strand of hair, the messier the better. The messy bun gives you an excuse to be casual and some what of a mess while staying on top of this season’s style.
9. Bouffant, French twist.
This elegant hairstyle will give you a look of the classic 60’s and create an essence of classiness. The bigger the better.
10. Slick backed pony
The sleek, slick backed pony is the most versatile look of fall. This style can be worn running errands around town or with a formal dress at an event and the best part it’s easy!
These fall looks are simple, easy, and will keep you up to date with the latest trends. Interested in learning more about the latest trends and styles in the hairstyle industry? The History of the Barber Career
Some feel that the barber profession has become a lost art, but this is not the case, rather, it is only being redefined. It has been changed in the past. Razors have been found among the relics from Egypt’s Bronze Age more than 5,000 years ago. In those days, barbers were highly respected. Cleanliness was next to godliness in the Egyptian’s heyday, and barbers were known to perform religious ceremonies including marriage and baptizing children.
Barber shops became popular in Ancient Greece as well, and the customers were brought to Rome, where barber shops became centers of news and gossip. Later, in the middle ages in Europe, barbers served multiple purposes, as in addition to haircutting, hairdressing, and shaving, they would perform surgery, bloodletting and leeching, fire cupping, and extraction of teeth. The adoption of the red and white striped barber pole came about during these days, as it indicated that the barbers were proficient in two professions, both surgery – red – and barbering – white.
Since then, barbering has become sort of a lost art. More and more people are growing their hair out, and therefore going longer between haircuts, forcing barbers to raise their prices in order to make ends meet. Often, barbers will now team up with full service hair salons (originally, barbers just referred to those who specialized in men’s hairdressers who specialized in the cutting of hair, as well as the shaving or trimming of beards) that specialize in hair coloring, haircutting, and hair texturing techniques instead of branching out on their own.
There are a few barbers who are still trying to carry on the traditions with the red and white pole, catering specifically to a male clientele. Many believe that these shops are a great last bastions of manliness and will go out of their way to find a great barber shop that can cater to their needs.
One good thing about the fall is how many hair color trends are coming out – there’s something in almost every category so that you can find the color that fits you the best. The great thing about hair color is that it is fun and you can always change it until you find the perfect color for you.
This fall, it is anything goes with the trends, but there are some winners that we’re keeping our eyes out on. Some big new things have been coming out of cosmetology schools around the country, but there are a few trends that are universal.
Shades of red are making a big appearance this fall. Whether a fiery copper or a tamer hue, they run the gambit and look good on many skin tones. Just remember that red fades out faster than almost all other hair colors, so you will have to get it touched up frequently if you want to keep it bright. Many decide to go with a red-toned brown instead to avoid the costs of constant upkeep.
The ombre hair trend – darker roots with lighter pieces near the face or at the ends – is holding strong. Sometimes called the “surfer look” it has become popular with many celebs ranging from Lauren Conrad to Drew Barrymore, and there is no end in sight. Besides this popular style, brunettes also have the options of chocolate, caramel, and an ashy brown as the most popular fall colors.
Platinum is holding strong as the frontrunner of blonde hues. Ultra-lightened locks are being seen already, and luckily salons are taking notice to their customers’ needs and developing products that help you to achieve this look without completely damaging your hair.
For a more daring look, brighter reds and blues are making a comeback in a lot of look books – whether its an overall red or blue highlights (or even just blue in the bangs), both colors can really bring a pop to your do. Pinks and purples are still popping up in some hairstyles, but not as frequently.
Ombre hair might seem like it’s a trend that’s dying out, but that is not the case. Many celebs have been seen rocking the look even as fall comes in.
Ombre styled hair was a big hit for the summer – what woman wouldn’t love a hair color that actually got better as it grew out? With dark roots working their way down to lightened sun-kissed shades at the end, it is an easy style to maintain. The ombre look has been spotted on these celebs recently: Kristin Cavalleri, Sarah Jessica Parker, Hillary Duff, Drew Barrymore, Rachel Bilson, Ashlee Simpson, Alexa Chung, Whitney Port, Lauren Conrad, Jessica Biel, and Cameron Diaz.
It can go from extreme to subtle – for example, Ashlee Simpson’s colors ranged from near black to a blonde color at the end of her long locks, while Rachel Bilson kept it more subtle with a few shades of brunette. It works on long locks or short styles, as demonstrated by Alexa Chung’s do.
You have some options to get ombre hair yourself. Obviously, the most basic one is to go to the hair salon – after all, a professional will know the best colors in order to achieve the ombre look you want. Some people may go to a hair styling school where they can get a hair coloring from someone who is finishing their cosmetology license. There are many different at home procedures you can do as well, using hair color out of the box, although I would only recommend this if you are very familiar with coloring your hair at home.
Another option is to let time run it’s course – after all, if you have been lightening your hair or adding highlights, it will eventually begin to grow out, and in a month or two your hair will have the beginnings of an ombre do. If you want to speed up the process somewhat, a simple tip is to wear a hat when you’re going outside over your roots, but leave the rest of your hair out – that will create a subtle lightening on the ends for a natural ombre look!
Barbers have been portrayed in many different television shows, movies, and even cartoons over the years. It is great as it helps to glamorize or at least commemorate an art form that is slowly becoming lost.
Famous cartoon barbers include Bugs Bunny in the Rabbit of Seville skit, in which he destroys Elmer Fudd’s ‘do, and Woody Woodpecker in another skit. Both of these are references to the barber Figaro in the Barber of Seville opera. This opera tells the story of a Spanish Count who falls in love with a girl Rosine, who is helped in wooing her by his ex-servent, Figaro, who is working as a barber in Rosine’s home.
On television, William “Bill” Fontaine De la Tour Dauterive of King of the Hill also comes to mind for famous cartoon bartenders, while Seinfeld’s Enzo & Gino made a memorable cameo in one episode in which Jerry receives a horrendous haircut. In a look towards “reality” television, Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, a wrestler, is known for shaving his opponents’ heads after he wins a match.
Throughout the 90’s and 00’s, the phenomenon of the “black barber” as a standard character was seen on big screens around the country. From Docter Dre and Ed Lover in Who’s the Man, to Clarence and Sweets in Coming to America, there have been countless barbers shown as loud, opinionated, and hysterical. Possibly the most famous is Cendric the Entertainer’s wise-cracking Eddie, star of the aptly named Barbershop movie series.
But the barbers don’t end here. Also famous on the big screen are Johnny Depp’s Sweeny Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Paired with director Tim Burton yet again, Depp’s character in this movie is known for not only his haircutting skills but also his murderous ways. Depp and Burton had teamed up previously for another barber movie, Edward Scissorhands – but really, what other profession could a man with scissors for hands hold?
With such famous characters to behold, and many different barber classes popping up throughout the United States, it will be surprising if the art of being a barber ever goes completely out of style.

Want to look like a celeb on your first day back to school this fall? We’re here to help. Check out some of these awesome styles sported by our favorite celebs:
This season, almost everything and anything goes with hair. Instead of one color being popular, you can pick the color that looks the best for you. There are a few trends we’ve noticed, though:
- Dip Dyed and Ombre Hair: Two-toned tresses are a hot trend recently, and look good on almost every skin tone. Ombre hair, seen on celebs like Leighton Meester, goes from dark to light, giving it a natural two-toned look. Or you can go a little daring and add some funky colors at the ends, like Lauren Conrad was recently spotted sporting
- The Braid: Got to get to class quick? A quick side braid is a hot trend for this season. Recently, it girl Amanda Seyfried was seen rocking a loose fishtail braid on the red carpet.
- Bangs: From Glee’s star Lea Michele’s playful fringe to Jessica Alba’s blunt bangs to Carrie Underwood’s Side Sweep, bangs are in season no matter the style you choose.
- The Pixie Cut: Looking for something really different? Take a cue from Harry Potter star Emma Watson and go for a pixie cut – it’s short and easy to style and popping up all over Hollywood!
Now that you’re hair is set, what about your makeup? From daring to casual, there’s a look that will fit almost every personality:
- Bright Eyes: Looking to put your best face forward, even in the early AM? Try out a full lash and white eyeliner combo to make your eyes seem bright even when you’re tired. Apply icy-white eyeliner to the inner corners of your eyes to really make them pop!
- Bright Lips: This trend has been around all year and we don’t see any end to it. Try out a bright red or coral lipstick to make your lips pop – just make sure to keep the rest of your makeup neutral so you don’t look too overdone.
- A Dewy Tan: What did you do on your summer vacation? Even if the answer isn’t relaxed by the pool, you can trick people into thinking that with a bronzer to give you a sun-kissed complexion.
Once you pick your hair and makeup style, you’re almost set – now you just have to pick something to wear!
